Danish VAT number check
Check a Danish supplier's or customer's number against VIES, the European Commission's register. Below: the format, what it's called locally, and the mistakes that make a correct number fail.
Paste the number with or without the country prefix. Nothing you enter is stored.
The format
| Prefix | DK |
|---|---|
| After the prefix | 8 digits |
| Structure | Four blocks of 2 digits (8 digits in all). |
| Example | DK12345678 |
You can paste the number with spaces, dots or dashes; the checker removes them.
What it's called
Momsregistreringsnummer, usually momsnummer.
The VAT number is DK followed by the business's 8-digit CVR number or, where it uses one, its SE number.
What trips people up
- A business can be VAT-registered under an SE number rather than its CVR number. Use the number it is actually registered under.
- For a joint VAT registration, the group's common number, name and address are used, not each member's.
Other ways to check
Skattestyrelsen, search for Danish VAT numbers. For cross-border trade, the VIES result above is the one to keep with your VAT records.
